Winter Warriors - Athletics Update
March 2, 2018
Matignon winter athletic teams had tremendous seasons. We are so proud of the time and effort our Warriors put in to Expect Excellence both in the classroom and in competition. Congratulations to all who played this season!
The Boys' Basketball Team finished the year 14-6. They were seeded number 5 in the MIAA Division 4 basketball tournament and will play Fenway High School in their first game of the tournament. The boys worked hard throughout the season and faced a very daunting non-league schedule. The team finished as runners-up in the St. Mary's of Lynn February Tournament. The Lady Warriors Basketball Team was the Catholic Central League Division 2 Champions. The Lady Warriors finished their season undefeated at 20-0! An incredible feat. They enter the MIAA Tournament as the number 1 seed in Division 4 North. The Lady Warriors will host Lowell Catholic on Friday, 3/2, at Medford High School.
The Co-ed Swim Team completed their season at the league meet at Simmons College. The team was chosen by the MIAA as the Co-ed Swim Team Sportsmanship award winners.
The Girls' Hockey Team qualified for the MIAA Tournament, losing to a very good Walpole team 5-2. The Lady Warriors played one of the toughest schedules in the state, with almost half their games against Division 1 opponents. The Boys' Hockey Team, also faced a daunting schedule, as all but 1 team on their schedule qualified for tournament play. Although the team came up 1 point shy of qualifying for the tournament, it was a very successful year.
Finally, our Co-ed Indoor Track Team, new to Matignon High School this year, competed well throughout the season. Several Matignon athletes put up personal bests week to week. Hard to believe spring sports are right around the corner, but be sure to Save the Date: The spring parent meeting will be held on Monday, 3/12/18, at 6:00 in the auditorium.
