My Matignon

When it was time to pick a high school, Matignon was my first choice. After going to many Matignon events and meeting some people, my interest in Matignon grew even more. Matignon’s location was also a huge factor in my decision because it is surrounded by some pretty amazing colleges, therefore making it easy to find great opportunities.

During my Freshman year at Matignon, I took a chance and took all honors classes. Though it was stressful at first, as I became used to it, I started liking my classes. They were at a speed that was comfortable for me and I was constantly being challenged. I also tried out for volleyball for the first time and fell in love with it! This was how I met many of my new friends. During my freshman year, I had the opportunity to sign up for MIT’s Leadership Training Institute. My Matignon family was very supportive and let me use our school to complete my service project for MIT. Near the end of my freshman year, I joined the students of color association (SOCA) which became my new home in the school. In SOCA I was surrounded by people similar to me and that could relate to my experiences.

So far this year, my Sophomore year, I have continued on the path of all honors classes. I also continued with volleyball and made the JV team. Volleyball was an amazing experience and I cannot wait for next year. I have also decided to participate in the student council as a representative. This year I was also chosen as Vice President of SOCA which is a great privilege! Matignon has truly helped me to inch away from my comfort zone and I cannot wait for what happens in the near future!
